The Preamble of the Constitution of India is not just a legal introduction — it is the soul of our nation’s. In the recent past, you must have seen a lot of talks and discussions in the name of the Constitution. Some leader says that the country will be run by the Constitution and in response to that, some leader of another party says, have you read the Constitution?
What do you know about the book through which this system of our entire country is running? If not much, then at least you should know its introduction. Hello, I am Vivek Sharma, I welcome you to my estamppaper.com On the blog.
Friends, just like you can guess the entire movie by watching its trailer or you can get to know about the story or subject of a book by reading its cover page. But have you ever seen the trailer of our country’s constitution? Yes friends, our country’s constitution also has a trailer which we call Preamble or Preamble.
Today we will talk about this and believe me that only by understanding the preamble of the constitution, you will be able to understand the essence of our country’s constitution. This will not only make you aware of the power of your rights. At the same time, you will also feel proud of being an Indian.
Many students are busy memorizing the preamble. But after reading this blog, you will not need to memorize the preamble of the constitution. For this, read the blog till the end. Before starting to understand the preamble, read the preamble once.
We, the people of India, to constitute India into a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic and to secure to all its citizens social, economic and political justice, liberty of expression, thought, belief, religion and worship, equality of dignity and opportunity and to promote among them fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the nation, hereby in this our Constituent Assembly on today the twenty sixth day of November 1949, Margasirsa Shukla Saptami Samvat 2006 Vikrami, do hereby adopt, enact and give ourselves this Constitution.
Is preamble the soul of indian constitution
Now let us try to understand it by interpreting it. The preamble begins with We the people of India. Friends, these are not just words but a declaration that the Constitution was not made by any king or external power but it was made by you, me, we and we the people of India are the source of all the powers of the Constitution. That is, this is the Constitution of the people of India.
In the next part, it is explained in the preamble how our country India will be. For this, we have decided on five pillars. The first is complete sovereignty which means that India is completely independent to take its own decisions. We are the masters of our own house and no other order can tell us what to do and what not to do.
We are completely free to make decisions in our internal and external matters. The second pillar is socialism, which means that the country is not just for a few rich people. It is the responsibility of the government to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor and everyone should benefit from the resources of the country.
Preamble of the Indian Constitution:
Topic | Details |
---|---|
What is the Preamble? | A brief introductory statement that reflects the values, objectives, and vision of the Constitution. |
Full Preamble Text | We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic.. (Adopted on 26 Nov 1949) |
Key Opening Line | We the people of India Citizens are the source of all constitutional power, not any monarch or foreign power. |
How does the constitution of India ensure secularism?
After this, the third pillar which is also the biggest feature of our constitution and our country is secularism which means that the government will not have any religion of its own. All religions are equal in the eyes of the government. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian all are equal. This pillar also guarantees that in our country no person will be discriminated against on the basis of religion and all religions will be viewed equally.
After this comes the beauty of our constitution which is expressed in the form of the fourth pillar, that is democracy. You already know that democracy means rule of the people, by the people for the people. In the country, we choose our leader ourselves. In our country, the government is elected by us and elections are held every 5 years. In which we can change the government by casting our vote. That is, in our country, the real power is in the vote, the right of which we get from our constitution.
The fifth pillar is a very important word, Republic. That is, there is no place for a dynasty in our country. Dynasty means that in many countries, there is still a system where there is a king and after him his successor will become the king. But in the Republic of India, the President will not be the son of a king or queen or the successor of a chief, rather his selection will also be through the election process. After reading this once again, we move on to the next part.
So we the people of India want to make India a completely sovereign socialist secular democratic republic. I hope you have understood the gist of this part. In this first part we have decided what our country will be like and for that we have decided five pillars.
Five Pillars of the Indian Constitution
Name | Meaning |
---|---|
Sovereign | India is free to take internal and external decisions independently. |
Socialist | Equal distribution of wealth; government works to reduce economic disparity. |
Secular | No official religion; all religions treated equally. |
Democratic | Government elected by the people through voting. |
Republic | No monarchy; President elected, not inherited. |
Now in part two, we are talking about what will the citizens of India get or what rights are guaranteed to the citizens of India by the Constitution. So there are four important things in this. The first and that is, the most important is justice. What kind of justice? Social, economic and political, meaning that no one should be discriminated against on the basis of caste and religion. This is social justice. Everyone should get equal opportunity to earn a livelihood. This is economic justice. And everyone should have the right to contest elections and vote. This is political justice. These three things will be covered in the part of justice.
The second is the freedom that we have got from the Constitution to think, speak, express our views, follow any religion and worship according to our wishes. The third important thing or guarantee is equality. Which means that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. Whether rich or poor, man or woman, everyone should get equal opportunities to progress. This is the intention of our Constitution.
The fourth thing that citizens get from the Constitution is fraternity. The citizens of the country should live like a family so that the unity and integrity of the country is maintained. This is the main objective of our Constitution. In the next part, the date comes on which we adopted the Constitution. So it is written that today on 26 November 1949 in the Constituent Assembly, we adopt, enact and surrender to this Constitution. Adoption means to adopt. Enactment means that it has become a fundamental law of our country. And surrender to ourselves means that we surrender to this Constitution.
You must be confused by looking at the date. If the date is 26th November then why do we celebrate Republic Day on 26th January? So friends, it was adopted on 26th November 1949. But it was implemented on 26th January 1950, which is a thing worth keeping in mind.
This is the Preamble of our Constitution which is not just the front page of the Constitution. It is the vision of our country. It is a map of how our dream India should be. It reminds us of our rights as well as our responsibilities. So friends, I hope you liked this simple analysis of the soul of the Constitution i.e. the Preamble. These are the promises that our country makes to all of us.
